The Vision that Heals from Within
In 1995, orthopedic surgeon Dr. Klaus Pastl asked a bold question:
What if we could fix bones with real bone?
Traditional metal hardware served its purpose, but Dr. Pastl envisioned a natural alternative — one that would remodel into the body’s own tissue, reduce complications, and potentially eliminate removal surgeries. Driven by this vision, his sons Lukas and Thomas Pastl founded surgebright, combining their father’s surgical expertise and their mother Dr. Eva Pastl’s medical knowledge with their own business acumen — built on one simple belief: use human bone to heal human bone.
The result was the Shark Screw® — a screw made entirely from 100% cortical human bone. It remodels into patient tissue, becoming part of the body. Allografts are proven safe, with millions implanted annually.
What began as one surgeon’s vision became a movement. Physicians tested it, trusted it, and shared it. Today, Shark Screw® is used in over ten countries, helping thousands of patients avoid unnecessary surgery and lingering hardware.
